Honu

One hour of Yin, or deep stretch yoga at Kom Hot Yoga can transport me to the beach, which is my ultimate happy place.

Today I felt like creating Turtle Pose, which opens the hips and stretches the back.

Honu is the Hawaiian name for the green sea turtle and envisioning him gracefully propelling through the swirling ocean with his powerful flippers definitely complemented today’s affirmations.

“I am bold.”

The honu is a majestic creature to behold. He is regarded as the navigator. With respect (and by law) he must be observed at a distance.

“I am wise.”

In Hawaiian culture the honu symbolizes good luck, endurance, persistence, and long life. He is a reminder to slow down; to pace myself. He represents emotional strength and understanding.

“I am beautiful.”

Honu is graceful and peaceful. Honu has a gentle spirit and a calming presence.
